Happy Me

Why do I look so happy in this picture? Any guesses? I'll give you a hint. Two days ago I really wanted some cheesecake. Yesterday at the grocery store I bought a huge box of Honey Nut Cheerios because they sounded SO good. And last night I felt like eating spaghetti and meatballs, so I made some. Just before it was ready to eat it all of the sudden smelled and sounded terrible! Yep, you got it! I'm pregnant!!! That's why I look so happy. :-) I'm almost always happy, but I'm especially so when I'm carrying a baby. I'm about 5 weeks and our baby is due at the end of July. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Beets

We are in an organic produce co-op, and this past week we got beets. Yuk! I can't stand beets. But Adam likes them, so at least they'll get eaten. That is if I can figure out how to cook them. Any suggestions out there? I don't think I've ever even held a fresh beet before.

I have a whole ton of things to be thankful for in November, but one is that none of my children (or myself) were hurt when our bedroom ceiling fell down last week. It was very loud and scary and was followed by complete silence. Crying would have been a very welcome sound in this situation! Joshua and Abigail like to play in our bedroom, but I am SO thankful that they were just around the corner when it happened. Adam is going to do the repairs himself as soon as this semester is over. So for now we're sleeping on the sleeper sofa. :-)

Potty Training

I've really been enjoying the potty training reports on Kim C.'s blog , and I'm thrilled that things are going so well for her, but I'm afraid it's not going quite that well here. Joshua (2 1/2) is my oldest, so I'm in uncharted waters. He knows when he's going and sometimes he holds it until I put him on the potty, but sometimes he doesn't. He never tells me when he needs to go...I have to ask him every 15 minutes or so, and the answer is always "no". I try to take him every 30 or 45 minutes, but he doesn't at all mind wetting or soiling his pants. I know the "experts" say not to discipline a child if he soils his pants, but they also say to let a child pitch a temper tantrum because he needs to express himself (or at least that's what some of them say). Needless to say, I'm not too concerned with following the "experts'" advice! It's starting to become very apparent that we know what we need to do but we don't want to stop playing long enough to do it. Joshua is an excellent talker and speaks in complete sentences all the time, so I know that he's capable of telling me when he needs to go. So, is there any advice out there? Have any of you disciplined your children for "accidents" during the potty training process?

I thought I'd share this recipe if anyone is interested. My husband really likes these and they're cheap, healthy and really tasty! Enjoy!

1 small cucumber, finely chopped
1/2 tbsp dried dill
1 tsp wine vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.

Flour tortillas
8 leaves lettuce
1/2 lb sliced cheese
2 tomatoes, sliced
1 small red onion, sliced
1 medium avocado, peeled and sliced
1 c. alfalfa sprouts

Layer all ingredients however you choose, roll up, and enjoy!

Good Answer!

Last night at dinner Adam and I were discussing who to vote for in the elections tomorrow. Adam asked Joshua (2 1/2) if he was a Republican or a Democrat and he said "I'm not a Republican or a Democrat. I'm a good boy." :-)

About Me

For those who don't know me, my name is Laura and I'm the very blessed wife of Adam and mother of our three little arrows - Joshua (2 1/2), Abigail (19mo) and Esther (5mo). I have created another blog for the sole purpose of allowing our family and friends to watch our children grow. You can visit that blog by clicking here. We live in Georgia, where it finally feels like Fall!

After having served in the military for 6 years, Adam is a full-time student (biology major) and we are waiting to hear if he has been accepted to dental school. We should know by this time next month! He is also the best husband and papa in the world (I know some of you would disagree with me, but that's the way it should be!). In addition to his studies he works part-time in a local dentist's office. I am a stay-at-home wife and Mama and I'm loving every minute of it! I am also the organist for our church, which you can visit by clicking here.

I have recently been reading a few other blogs which have inspired me to start my own. I hope that my blog will be as encouraging and helpful to other women as they have been to me. Feel free to comment often! I don't have any recent pictures of our whole family together, but I will try to post one soon.
